These mindfulness-based practices are found across a range of spiritual or faith based traditions, commonly referred to as metta practices, or practices of the heart. In the past 20 years, extensive research has shown that these practices can offer many health related benefits, and actually strengthen certain areas in the brain that increase our ability to live with greater empathy, compassion and understanding.
